Perfectly Made. For you, by you!

Placenta encapsulation is a method of preparing a woman's placenta into capsulres for consumption during her postpartum period. This practice has been used for thousands of years and is very common in many cultures around the world.

The placenta is full of nutrients. What was used to nourisha nd grow your baby for nine months can also be used to support your healing after birth. Loaded with iron, protein, vitamins, minerals and hormones, it is perfectly made for you, by you! Reintroducing these nutrients and hormones back to your body may support you through the hormone fluctuation after birth.

During birth women lose 1/8th to 1/10th of their blood supply which can lead to anemia, fatigue, low energy and mood. The placenta contains essential fats, amino acids, and large amounts of iron. When consumed it may help the mother make up for this loss of blood, and therefor positively affect her postpartum mood and energy levels. Placentophagy (the act of utilizing your placenta as a supplement) is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine and is a very common practice in many cultures around the world.

Anecdotal evidence suggests encapsulation may be used to support:

Milk supply
Energy levels
Decreased fatigue
Hormone balance
Decreased postpartum anemia
Quicker postpartum recovery
Balance of body and emotions
Low moods such as "baby blues" and postpartum depression
Decreased lochia and shorten the postpartum bleeding period

What's in the placenta?

Iron, B vitamins & minerals, protein, essential fats, amino acids and essential hormones
Oxytocin: The hormone responsible for love and bonding, as well as uterus contractions and firming
Prolactin: The hormone that promotes lactation
Gonadotropin: The precursor to estrogen, progesterone and testosterone
Cortisone: Reduces stress & unlocks energy stores
Hemoglobin: Replenishes iron deficiency and anemia, a common postpartum condition
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone: Boosts energy & helps recovery from stressful events
Interferon: Stimulates the immune system to protect against infections
Prostaglandins: Anti-inflammatory
Gamma Globulin: Immune booster that helps protect against postpartum infections

Although there is some research done in the field, most of what we know about placenta encapsulation comes from anecdotal evidence. Placenta encapsulation is not recognized under Health Canada.

One reason why my partner Mike and I chose Lindley to be our doula was that she offered placenta encapsulation. I was new to the idea but had heard about it and was intrigued. Lindley explained the process and even though it is not well researched explained to me the possible amazing benefits.

After the birth of our daughter Lindley helped me ask the staff at the hospital to release the placenta and Lindley got to work right away! I couldn't be happier with the results of the capsules. I chose the traditional chinese medicine method and they are tasteless and resemble any of the many supplements that I have taken in the past. I have such a great amount of energy postpartum and I feel this is closely related to the placenta capsules. I feel like I have not had many hormonal moments since starting the capsules and I feel like I have recovered from the birth very quickly.

I would highly recommend placenta encapsulation and if you at all are wondering about it, ask!

Lindley was fabulous to work with and very professional. She encapsulated my placenta for me and was very easy to get a hold of, knowledgable, and friendly.

I LOVED the encapsulation!! I felt amazing after my delivery and truly believe it helped with mood swings, postpartum period, milk production and energy levels. I would reccomend Lindley, and placenta encapsulation to everyone!
